Titanium possesses several excellent characteristics - it is light-weight (its tensile strength is comparable to carbon steel) and it has excellent corrosion resistance (gives long service even in an offshore marine atmosphere and good resistance to seawater). In an addition, it can be formed as easily as stainless steel. Other factors that contribute to its diversity of application include its low coefficient of thermal expansion, absence of magnetism, and the recent development of integral color by anodizing.
